Free for the organization. The ask moves into your buyer's checkout.
Zeffy is funded by a contribution your buyer is asked for at checkout, shown twice on the form, with wording and suggested amounts your organization cannot change. It is also open only to organizations that qualify. TixTally charges 1% + $0.49 per paid ticket, asks your buyer for nothing beyond the price you set, and is open to anyone with a Stripe account.
What you get on TixTally
No organization required
Sign up as yourself and sell tickets to your own event. There is no eligibility check, no EIN, and no organizational bank account to open first.
Your checkout stays yours
Nobody else asks your buyers for money on the way through. They see the price you set, and our fee only if you chose to pass it on.
You choose who pays our fee
Pass it to the buyer at checkout, or absorb it. It is an explicit choice on every event, not a setting we make for you.
Check-in built for a door
Each attendee gets a signed QR code, verified on the phone itself. A basement hall with one bar of signal does not stop the line.
Side by side, on the things that cost you money
The Zeffy column is their own published wording, with the date we read it.
| Compared on | TixTally | Zeffy |
|---|---|---|
| What the platform charges the organization | 1% + $0.49 per paid ticket, 1.5% per donation | Nothing. Zeffy states it is 100% free to the organization |
| How the platform is funded | The fee above, taken from the transaction | A voluntary contribution the buyer is asked for at checkout, shown twice on the form |
| What your buyer is asked for | Your price, plus our fee only if you chose to pass it on | Your price, plus a contribution to Zeffy whose wording and suggested amounts the organization cannot change |
| Who can open an account | Anyone. One person selling tickets to their own event is a supported path | Nonprofits and registered charities. Individuals and for-profit businesses are not eligible |
| Bank account required | Whatever your own Stripe account pays out to | A bank account in the organization's name. A personal bank account cannot be connected |
| Requirement in the US | A Stripe account, and nothing else | An EIN is always required, even without formal nonprofit status |
| Card processing fees | Paid to Stripe by the organizer, separate from our fee and never blended into it | Zeffy states it covers all transaction costs |
The Zeffy column is what Zeffy publishes about itself, read from their support article on being free and their eligibility article on 30 August 2026. Nothing in that column is our characterisation of them.
Our fee is charged on top of Stripe's standard card processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. Stripe's part goes to Stripe, not to us. The per-ticket fee never exceeds $1.99. Our figures are read from the same configuration your checkout charges from, so this page cannot say one thing and your buyers pay another.
Questions about TixTally and Zeffy
Short answers, so you can decide without booking a call with anyone.
- Is TixTally free, like Zeffy?
- No. We charge 1% + $0.49 per paid ticket and 1.5% per donation. On 30 August 2026, Zeffy stated it is 100% free to the organization and is funded by a voluntary contribution the buyer is asked for at checkout.
- Then why would I pay a fee when Zeffy is free?
- Three reasons, and if none of them apply to you then Zeffy costs you less and you should use it. You may not be eligible. You may not want another company asking your buyers for money inside your checkout. Or you may need real check-in at a door.
- Can I use TixTally if I am not a nonprofit?
- Yes. Sign up as yourself, as a business, or as an organization, with no eligibility check. On 30 August 2026, Zeffy stated that individuals and for-profit businesses are not eligible and that a personal bank account cannot be connected.
- Does TixTally add a tip or donation prompt to my checkout?
- No. Your buyer sees the price you set, plus our fee only if you chose to pass it on. Nothing is added on our behalf.
- Who pays the TixTally fee, the buyer or the organization?
- You choose, per event. It is an explicit field when you create the event, so nobody picks it for you by default.
- Are Stripe's card fees included in the TixTally fee?
- No. Our fee is charged on top of Stripe's standard card processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. Stripe's part goes to Stripe, not to us.
